Residential - Modern
The clients' brief was to create a two storey family home, focussing on thermal efficiency and privacy from neighbours whilst still maintaining views to the mountains beyond. The spaces are organised around a central double height atrium to create a sense of space and height in an otherwise compact home. Windows are configured to capitalise on view shafts and sun patterns whilst maintaining privacy for the occupants within. A limited palette of robust materials (cedar & plastered masonry) are used externally. The double height plastered masonry element at the entry is thermally broken and acts as a heat sink within the home. The atrium space is clad in American White Oak to add emphasis to this double height space.
