Located in the heart of Wanaka, the owners brief was to create a low maintenance holiday retreat. The resulting two storey home takes advantage of lake views to the north and is designed around a series of courtyards which offer the occupants multiple outdoor living options depending on the time of day. The dramatic cantilever of the upper level volume provides shelter and shade to the courtyard below. Playful use of mid-century style breezeblocks harken back to Wanaka cribs of old. The exterior palette combination of charred “Shou Sugi Ban” Accoya timber cladding contrasted with light coloured Oamaru stone creates a refined and understated street presence.
