Waimana Place Renovation, Wānaka

Situated in a prime lakefront position in Bremner Bay, Wānaka, this early-2000’s residence was purchased by our clients for its sought-after location and ideal footprint. Their vision was to undertake a transformative renovation that would modernise both the interior and exterior, while embedding their own personal style throughout.

The original interiors were dated and compartmentalised, limiting natural light and failing to capitalise on the breathtaking views of Lake Wānaka and Treble Cone. However, the overall bulk forms and roof pitch of the home showed strong potential to be modernised, ideal for a large-scale renovation.  The brief called for the retention of the existing structure, re-imagined as a timeless, robust, and spacious retreat. Materials appropriate to the alpine context were prioritised, along with a strong focus on maximising the home’s connection to the surrounding landscape.

As this is intended to be the clients’ forever home, longevity, quality craftsmanship, and a refined material palette were central to every design decision. We approached the renovation with a deep respect for the original form while introducing a contemporary, visually compelling design language. The reconfigured layout improves flow and functionality, introduces light-filled interiors, and creates framed moments of the spectacular alpine setting.

Condon Scott were engaged for full services — architecture, interior design, and construction observation. Now under construction, the project is set for completion in mid-2026. Upon completion, the home will feature entirely new interior fixtures and finishes, curated to deliver a modern, well-appointed home where the clients can enjoy the lifestyle that this unique site affords.
